Romans 1:18-22
“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and wickedness of me who by their wickedness suppress the truth. For what can be know about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. Ever since the creation of the world his invisible nature, namely, his eternal power and deity, has been clearly perceived in the things that have been made. SO they are without excuse; for although they knew God they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they because futile in their thinking and their senseless minds were darkened.” Romans 1:18-22 (RSV)
This verse is one that I have struggled with as far as the understanding of the verse. It is in the letter that Paul has written to the Romans as he prepares to travel to their country to spread the gospel. From my perspective the verse says that through the creation of the earth, and all that was created that God is evident to all of humanity. IF you look at the world around you, and the beauty that it entails, you will be able to recognize that God created it. Perhaps the people do not know his name, but they should recognize the fact that there is a creator. The scripture goes on to say that because God has made himself evident in the world, and these people have turned their back or not honored God that he will darken their minds.
Parts of the scripture are easy for me to understand; I grew up believing in God, and never really went through a time of great questioning about my beliefs. How does this scripture relate to someone who does not believe? I think that it relates negatively to those who do not believe, after all what chance would they think they has after reading it. This is some comfort knowing God created the world, and included his beauty in the world around use.
